Management and policy making will be supported with dedicated tools
Those responsible for the management of and policy making regarding the environment and living marine resources are being supported through specific software tools, tailored reports and face to face meetings in order to underpin decision making with a scientific basis.
A focus of this activity is demonstrating how products from models operating at different spatial scales can assist such decision making. Specifically the ecological models NORWECOM (NORWegian ECOlogical Model) and ATLANTIS (3D ecosystem box model) are used to demonstrate applications for fisheries and environmental management, primarily in the Barents Sea, with the possibility of extending to other areas. Flexible modelling tools such as FLEXSEM are being employed to demonstrate how specific local issues (e.g. acidification, fishery, meltwater run-off and sea ice cover) can be resolved within the models.
