First INTAROS Deployment of Oceanographic, Acoustic and Seismological Instruments

The INTAROS summer fieldwork season began with an exciting expedition north of the island of Svalbard. This was the first INTAROS campaign for deployment of oceanographic, acoustic and seismological instruments which will operate in situ for about a year.

The deployment was be made north of Svalbard extending from the coastal shelf towards the deep Nansen Basin. The INTAROS mooring array complements the A-TWAIN oceanographic moorings already deployed nearby. The data from the moorings was be supported by an oceanographic transect along the array. Furthermore, three ocean bottom seismometers were deployed at given positions in the Fram Strait (see specific news here).

A coordinated measurement program involving biogeochemical measurements, passive acoustic, light and microstructure measurements was also be carried out in the marginal ice zone North of Svalbard.
Fieldwork leader was Hanne Sagen, NERSC. You can read more about that expedition here.

You can check out all the observing sites assessed by INTAROS in this interactive map.
