Find out who won the travel grant to EGU 2019...

Zeinab in action during an Arctic expedition 2018.

INTAROS recently opened an opportunity to fund participation by early-career researchers in the EGU General Assembly 2019, which will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 7–12 April. During this meeting, INTAROS will host a Special Session entitled “Evaluation, exploitation and enhancement of Arctic observing systems across disciplines” (session G13.7).

We are now delighted to announce that the successful candidate was Zeinab Jeddi, a young postdoctoral researcher from the Department of Earth Science at the University of Bergen, Norway. Congratulations Zeinab!

Zeinab will present her research on seismological research, highlighting the efforts involved in gathering more than 50 years of seismological data, which will be available online via the INTAROS web service (coming soon!).

Zeinab will also give a taster of the research to come in the summer of 2019 in Fram Strait and in Storfjorden in collaboration with EPOS-N (European Plate Observing System in Norway). She will also show some preliminary results from Mohn's Ridge OBS data, which was gathered between July 2017 and February 2018 by the K.G. Jebsen Centre for Deep Sea Research. This dataset revealed a large number of undetected earthquakes occurring on the existing observing system. For a closer look at Zeinab's work, you can check out the abstract for her talk here.

This special session organised by INTAROS aims at bringing together multidisciplinary studies that address the current state of Arctic observing systems, including strategies to improve them in the future. We have contributions covering atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere and terrestrial spheres, or combinations thereof, by use of remote sensing, in situ observation technologies, and modelling. This session will be supported by the EU-H2020 project INTAROS, and welcomes contributions from other pan-Arctic networks (e.g. FRAM, INTERACT, GTN-P, NEON, ICOS, SIOS, IASOA, AOOS), multi-disciplinary programmes (e.g. ABoVE, NGEE Arctic, Arctic Ocean 2018, YOPP, MOSAIC, Legacy of Nansen) and databases.

Session Conveners: R. Pirazzini (FMI, Finland), M. Göckede (MPG, Germany), A. Beszczynska-Möller (IOPAN, Poland), A. Ahlstrøm (GEUS, Denmark), S. Sandven (NERSC, Norway). Check out the link to the session here.

Stay tuned to the INTAROS website and social media (Twitter and Facebook) for all the latest EGU information as events unfold.
